After Florence flooding, I-95 to reopen Friday
South Carolina drivers have been frustrated all week as one of the state’s main highways has shut down due to hurricane-related flooding.
That frustration may have come to an end once and for all on Friday, as the state Department of Transportation was preparing to reopen all lanes of Interstate 95.
The interstate was intermittently closed to traffic throughout the week as roadways flooded in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. On Friday, DOT announced all lanes on I-95 will be open Friday afternoon.
The interstate first closed early Monday as portions were overtaken with flood water near the North Carolina border. The southbound lanes between mile marker 181 and 190 reopened later on Monday, but northbound lanes in the same sections remain closed until Wednesday.
DOT then closed a separate section between 164 and 181 later on Wednesday.
Flooding has effected several parts of the Pee Dee region after Florence dumped record amounts of rainfall in the area.
